HOW IT GOES DOWN
From lump to shelf: the process
1
Prep the table, open the box, setup done.
Clay, tools, paints, glossy resin glaze and a guide, all in one box. No shopping list, no trip to a craft shop, no "some assembly required" moment at 8pm. Clear the kitchen table, pour a drink, and you're ready in about ninety seconds.

Pick your fighter.
Choose one thing, a jack-o-lantern, a trendy ghost, or a bat trinket dish, and commit to it. Staring at a blank lump is the only genuinely hard part of pottery.

Let your hands (and tools) do the shaping.
No wheel, no throwing, no decade of practice. You pinch, roll and press air-dry clay into shape the same way you did aged six, except this time you're making something you'll actually keep on a shelf.

Leave it alone for 48 hours.
It hardens slowly in a dry place while you get on with your week. No kiln, no firing, no studio, no trekking across town to collect anything. Air-dry clay handles it without you.

Paint it and UV glaze it.
Paint makes it yours, UV resin makes it look like you bought it. One coat, 10 minutes left in the sun and your creation starts catching the light like proper glazed ceramic. This is roughly when people stop asking if you made it and start asking where it's from.

Entries close at 11.59pm CEST on Wednesday 28 October, and we announce the winners on Halloween. If you’re ordering a kit to make your entry, order by Monday 19 October - that leaves time for it to arrive, for the clay to dry for 48 hours, and for you to paint and glaze before entries close.
There’s no wrong way to make it, so we’re not judging on polish. We look at three things.
- Effort - you gave the project a real go, start to finish.
- Personal touch - you made a choice that’s uniquely yours, whether that’s a colour, an added detail or your own spin on the design.
- Halloween spirit - your piece is recognizably Halloween, whether you followed a creation from the guide or went completely your own way.

Nope. That’s the whole idea. This is air-dry clay - it hardens by itself at room temperature in about 48 hours. No kiln, no oven, no studio, nothing to plug in.
It’ll look handmade. That’s a different thing. You’ll come to love the slight imperfections that make it yours. Nobody’s first one is the good one.
No, this one’s built for adults. Four pounds of clay, carving and shaping tools, and our ultra glossy UV resin. If you want one for smaller hands, the Sculpd Kids Pottery Kit is made for ages 4 to 9.
First of all, store bought air-dry clay can a real struggle to work with. Its full of plastic and doesn’t hold its shape or dry hard and strong. This is 1.8kg of our own proprietary air-dry clay that dries smooth, hard and light grey, plus carving tools, brushes, paint colors, a sponge, our magic UV resin packaged in a beautiful ready-to-go box. No shopping list.
An hour or two of actual making. Then 48 hours of leaving it alone while it hardens. Then depending on your design and attention to detail, another hour to paint and 10 minutes to glaze (in direct sunlight). Spread across a few evenings, not one long session.
Less than you’d think. Air-dry clay wipes off hands and tables with water. No firing, no glaze, no kiln dust. A tablecloth or some newspaper covers it. Honestly, the paint is the messier half.
